Machete wielded at onlookers
Several bystanders who prevented a youth from tampering with a parked car were threatened with a 30cm machete before the offender ran away,! the police said last evening.
According to a police spokesman, a youth, aged 14, was arrested after being stopped some distance from the Stanmore Road Super Value carpark at 6.45 p.m. yesterday. ( The youth was allegedly tampering with) a green Mini car in the car-park when he was approached by bystanders |who realised he did not own the vehicle.
He produced a big knife described as a machete, then fled.
A youth, aged 14, will appear in the Children and Young Persons Court today. The police would like to hear from anyone who finds a 30cm woodenbladed knife in the Stanmore Road area.
