Embarrassment of relief riches
The Red Cross has been overwhelmed with offers of food, . clothing and bedding for the East Coast flood areas.
The Christchurch community relations officer, Ms Wendy Camish, said the Gisborne Red Cross centre now had sufficient supplies for the people affected bv the flood.
"We're very grateful and it has been very generous of people to give things but Gisborne has it well under control," she said. ! The relief teams had
enough food to last for some time and were distributing clothing from Red Cross clothing packs, which had already’ been sorted into sizes. Ms Camish said.
Clothing sent in was unlikely to be used by the East Coast teams because it needed to be sorted and prepacked first, she said. Anyone who still wished to help the flood-torn area could make a donation to the National Disaster Relief Fund, which was being used to pay for the relief; operation.
