Police warn about stolen tobacco
<Clubs and organisations were warned yesterday against buying 1 cigarettes from cheap sources in the wake of recent burglaries in Christchurch. Cigarettes have been stolen in at least five burglaries since Saturday evening. : The largest haul was worth $7OOO. A stock-take has confirmed this is the value of cigarettes missing from the Papanui warehouse of J. Rattray and Son. Ltd, which was burgled on Saturday evening. The offenders removed a further $lO,OOO in cigarettes from the premises but left them behind at the rear of the warehouse after apparently being disturbed. Detective 1 SeniorSergeant Dave Whitford advised sports clubs and organisations to buy their supplies from the regular wholesalers. He said the cigarettes stolen from Rattray and Son’s warehouse were identifiable.
