England battling injuries and flu
PA Auckland Injuries and sickness have hit key members of the touring England cricket team, leaving the selection of its side for tomorrow’s final one-day international against NewZealand open. The manager, Mr Mickey Stewart, said the batsman, Martyn Moxon, and the bowler, Neal Radford, were suffering from the .flu, the all-rounder, David Capel, had tonsilitis, Neil Fairbrother was still trying to overcome an arm) injury and the fast bowler, Graham Dilley, was! still troubled by a knee injury. All, with the exception of Dilley, have played in
the one-day matches held so far. “We will not be in a position to name an eleven until we see how the guys are on Saturday morning,” Mr Stewart said. “We will most likely name a squad of 13, maybe 14, tomorrow and just see who is fit,” he said. Moxon, the team’s regular opening batsman, was forced to withdraw on the morning of the third onedayer in ' Napier on Wednesday with the flu. There has been slight improvement since but too little to suggest he will be fit. Meanwhile, the New Zealand bowling ace,
Richard Hadlee, has joined the Kiwi team and the chances of him playing on Saturday seem good. The manager and national selector, Mr Bob Cunis, said there had been no soreness after Hadlee had practised for the first time on Tuesday since straining the calf muscle in his right leg a month ago. Mr Cunis said Hadlee had another net session before leaving Napier yesterday and would practise again-in the'nets this morning. • i “We are very happy with the way he has! batted'and bowled in the nets,” Mr Cunis said.
