The Awapuni i Gold Cup! has long been aj keenly sought-after prize and punters this time will have a fine: form guide to look back on injthe shape-of the DB 1600 at Trentham last week. ! j That event was won by Steely Dan from The Filbert, Abit deica and Field Dancer and all four are racing again tomorrow. Steely Dan,!which was ridden last week by Lance O'Sullivan, will be handled by Noel Harris this week. Harris Has been successful on the horse before. I A most encouraging aspect of the DB 1600, was the fine showings of both The Filbert and Abit Leica, grand weight-for-age performers which are not long into (hew campaigns. The Glen j Oaks Breeders’ Stakes is the final of the 10 races-in the Wrightson "Filly of the Year” series.. While Candide has won both the classic events for the fillies, the One Thousand Guineas and the New Zealand Oaks, as well (as the Great Northern Oaks a couple! of! weeks ago, she still trails Impasada' by three points. I j | . For Candide to win the title, (she has to win and Impasada finish further back than second. Candide first and) Impasada • second would tie the result.
