Message from the Queen
A special message from the Queen will be read in Christchurch Cathedral on Sunday to mark Commonwealth Day. About 200 recipients of honours conferred by the Queen will attend the service with members of the Commonwealth societies and representatives of the Government, ‘ local authorities, and voluntary organisations. Representatives of youth organisations will carry the flags of the Commonwealth nations in a procession. The speaker at the service will be the new British High Commissioner, Mr Robin Byatt, who is making his first official visit to the South Island. The morning service has been organised by the Dean of Christchurch, the Very Rev. Dr David Coles.
