Unemployment

Sir, —Is the dole too easy to get? Do students not want to work? I do not know what the answer is, but the following may interest you. I applied for a student, on the subsidy scheme; in mid-November, 1987, to work on our farm, involving general farm work. I removed this job vacancy from the Labour Department in the first week of February, 1988, a total period of 11 weeks. How many replies do you think I received? None! Is there a student job shortage? — Yours, etc., J. D. ECROYD. March 4, 1988.
