Meat works
Sir,—For the last two years there has been uncertainty, insecurity and consequent low morale among employees because of the rumoured closing, in the name of rationalisation, of South Island freezing works. Families of these employees are under severe stress because of the conflicting reports and rumours. Athol Hutton (February 22) states that no Waitaki plant will close. However, Mick Calder, of Freesia Investments (March 5), gives a strong hint that Waitaki’s Islington works may close. In the name of honesty
and fairness to the hundreds of people directly affected, Mick Calder, who seems to have the inside information, should come out in the open and name those South Island works that are going to be closed. — Yours, etc., VAL UPTON, i March 5, 1988.
