New findings on female infertility
NZPA Wellington Women who have had the sexually transmitted disease, chlamydia, I have as good a chance of getting pregnant by in | vitro fertilisation as other infertile women, according to a study at the National Women’s Hospital. | The research in Auckland gave hope to many women who have had the common sexually transmitted disease which has been linked to (infertility, an obstetrician and gynaecologist who now operates a private fertility clinic in Auckland. Dr Fred Graham, said. He told a medica congress in Wellington recently. that this finding differed from other
studies, including those done by specialists who pioneered test tube babies in England. Dr Graham told the ninth Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology that 40 per cent of the women he studied with tubal disease could attribute their infertility to chlamydia. This study was able to prove that the 5.T.D. was not associated with a lower pregnancy rate after in vitro fertilisation.
