Phoney war
PA Wellington All mobile police cars in Wellington area were sent to Petone last evening after reports about 9 p.m. of 100 people fighting and shots being fired on the foreshore. But the brawl on the Esplanade turned out to be a pre-arranged mock battle between two Petone church youth groups, Senior-Sergeant Tony Allum, of Wellington, said the Wellington police station’s 111 lines became jammed as residents telephoned abbut the fight. The loud “shots” were dry ice bombs.
