African-born Zola Budd. I ( , Mr Tony Ward, spokesman for the British Amateur (Athletic Board said on Monday, “In the interests jf all members of the team we are not saying when they depart or where
they are staying. I “We do not want to give any assistance to those planning to be at the airport or trying to disrupt the team’s preparations, he said.” Budd, who was controversially granted speedy British citizenship before the 1984 Olympic Games, last week gave written assurances to officials that she had cut her ties with South Africa. Some African countries have threatened to boycott the championships in Auckland on
March 26 if Budd, world women’s cross-country champion in 1985 and 1986, was allowed to run. But the board’s chairman, Mr Ewan Murray, ( said at the week-end there was no question of Budd’s withdrawing.
Anti-apartheid groups in New! Zealand have said they will demonstrate against Budd, and the New Zealand Government has said she is not welcome in the country but it will not stop her from entering.
