Youth shot by ait gun
A person |who fired an air gun from bushes near the Styx Mill bridge on Saturday came close to costing a ybuth, aged 15, his right eye. Lindsay Iplen, a! Kaiapoi High School student, was struck){on the eyebrow, the pellet penetrating about 25mm under his skin. A doctor at Christchurch Hospital’s accident and emergency department had to cut trie skin above the > pellet {to remove it. j I Lindsay, who lives in Belfast, was walking with two friends along tljie railway line towards the Styx Mill bridge on Saturday when the incident occurred, shortly after 4.30 p.m.
Lindsay said they took little notice of thje first shot as it appeared to have been fired into the nearby river. He said they could not see the person, who was! probably concealed [in the bush. “We heprd the second one and thought we had better leave.
“We started to walk off. Then I turned around to see if anyone was there. I felt this pain in myjhead.” The three then ran back to Lindsay’s home. The Papanui polige now have the ! pellet and are investigating the incident.
