Sydney campaign off
PA Wellington The top mare, Daria’s Fun, will miss the Sydney autumn racing carnival, but may tilt at the $300,000 Brisbane Cup at Eagle LFarm on June 13, according to her trainer, Sue Ellis. I Ellis said yesterday that she had decided to give away 'any idea of campaigning the mare in Sydney, but a trip to Brisbane was a possibility if the mare’s form warranted it. Daria’s Fun has been not raced since her brilliant victory in the $300,000 Wellington Cup (3200 m on January 30 when she
romped home by two and a half lengths. j The mare developed a skin ailment on the trip which was aggravated by sunburn. . i
She was given three weeks out in the paddock after returning home to Pukekohe.
“That’s a long time for her and she got fat very quickly,” Ellis said.
Daria’s Fun has recovered from her problems and Ellis is pleased with her progress. It is planned that the mare will return to racing in a 1200 m event at Paeroa on March 19 when she is likely to be ridden
by Lisa Cropp, who is able to claim a 2.5 kg allowance.
She will then run in the $lBO,OOO Bayleys Easter (1600 m at Ellerslie on April 2 when she will be reunited with her cupwinning jockey, Gary Stewart. Stewart will be travelling back and forth across the Tasman to ride Bonecrusher but expects to be available for the Easter ride.
The mare’s performance in the Easter will dictate whether she then runs in the $200,000 Television NZ Stakes (2000 m a week later.
