Farmers renew tariff call
PA Wellington /r Federated Farmers has renewed its call for the Government to remove tariffs and deregulate the labour market. The Government’s adoption of a tight monetary policy as virtually its only instrument to control inflation had compounded the problems of farmers, the federation’s president, Mr Brian Chamberlin, told a Dominion council meeting yesterday.
“So far it is the export sector which has had to carry almost the total cost of Government policies. Mr Chamberlin said the projected income from other sectors had not materialised.
Pastoral farming was the only industry which could pull New Zealand out of the mire, yet there was a group of people “hell bent” on destroying it, he said.
