PA Wellington It is time for the sharemarket to get back to basics, for accounts to be trusted and information given, the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, said yesterday. “New Zealanders must be able to trust the sharemarket and its listed companies,” he told a gathering marking the merger of accounting firms Lawrence Anderson Buddle and Price Waterhouse in Wellington. “If they don't they won't invest in it. And that would be a serious problem’, one that might re-
quire Government action.” There was no question of; the Government reversing its stance and intervening in the market, “Shareholders in New Zealand have been learning some new words recently — call and put,” he said. "There is nothing necessarily wrong about these developments and others like them, as long as shareholders are aware of them. “But too often in the recent past, they haven't been.”
