Ashton-Tate will release dßase IV on July 31. It ■ will include a compiler 10 times faster than dßase 111. 1 Other features will include data entry and report generation without writing programmes. DYNIX Victoria University of Wellington has contracted! with Ultimate Computer to purchase the DYNIX i automated library system for the university library. I The library will install the DYNIX cataloguing,' circulation, and on-line public access catalogue mo-; dules in 1988. The software for these modules will berm on an Ultimate 3030 computer in the universities! computing services centre. Access to the on-line catalogue will be available' not only from dedicated public terminals within the library but also throughout the university from remote terminals connected to the university network. Initially the library plans to introduce a basic on-j line catalogue. This will replace the existing micro] fiche catalogue and also include those sections of the card catalogue which have already been converted into machine-readable form under the continuing retrospective conversion programme. The automated circulation system will be brought on-line late this year. ; Imagineering Imagineering Micro Distributors has appointed the Honeywell Bull network as its authorised on-site service agents for a range of hardware products. Imagineering will train Honeywell Bull service engineers and provide back up in the latest documentation and spares. i
The West German Minister of Posts and Telecon, Mr Christian Schwarz-Schilling, talks to Professor Gert Lorenz, director of Philips, on a
trial videophone link, between Bonn and Eindhoven, in the Netherlands. The videophones, developed jointly by the
Netherlands and! West Germany, will go into service in three [ years. The videophones will cost subscribers SNZ2OOO to $3OOO initially, and
will have a montnly rental of about $lOO and a call charge about double that of normhl phones in the countries.
