Woman’s death probed
PA Palmerston North A Dannevirke (man was arrested in Palmerston North on Thursday and charged with the manslaughter of a Dannevirke woman 15 months ago J Peter Rodney Derby, aged 31, (described . by police: as a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, offered no plea during his brief appearance in the District Court at Palmerston North late on Thursday. He was charged with the manslaughter of Jacqueline Mary Eriksen on December 3, 1986. . He was remanded on bail to the District Court at Dannevirke on March 16 for a date to be set for a depositions hearing. The officer in charge of the inquiry, Detective Sergeant Gary Smith, of the Palmerston Nbrth C. 1.8., said no inquest had been held into! the woman’s death. I . The inquiry; arose as a ■result of an approach to the police by the dead woman’s husband a year ago. Detective Sergeant Smith said the police then had to seek opinions from such quarters as Police National j (Headquarters and the Crown prosecutor in Palmerston North. The police, he said, alleged that Derby caused the death of; Mrs Eriksen, aged 38, as a result of advice he gave her when treating her for asthma.
