Tauranga H.Q. for TV3 region
PA Tauranga The headquarters for TV3’s eastern Region Two operation will be Tauranga, the company announced. ■ I
In a joint statement with the Tauranga City Council, TV3 said it had negotiated to build;studios and associated facilities above a council off-street qar-park in downtown Tauranga.
The site is opposite Tauranga’s Baycourt complex, the main theatre of which will be used by TV3 for live shows.
The company’s chairman. Mr Bill Evans, said final design of studios and production facilities was still to be completed but companies interested in tendering for construction would be invited to register interest.
“We are still on track to be ready to begin transmitting in the first half of 1989,” he said. • The studio complex is expected to cost between $Bl million and $lO million, including two levels of parking, to which the Tauranga City Council is expected to contribute dbout $1.6 million. Mr Evans said the company always saw Tauijanga as its first choice of location and key centre in its region, but there had been heavy pressure from Hamilton ; and other sites in Tauranga, including Mount Maunganui.
