Few renew payments

Some Christchurch families may have a reduction in their pay from April 1 because they have not returned Family Support I j payment forms to the Inland Revenue Departinent.

; The department’s district commissioner in (Christchurch, Mr! Neale McPherson, said he was concerned about the poor response; from families who received application forms to renew their Family Support payments. Of the 12,000 ; forms issued in Christchurch only 3000 had been returned. Families that were receiving Family Support and who had not renewed their applications would have a reduction in their takehome pay from April 1,

Mr McPherson said. ; Some families might not be sending their forms into the department deliberately as|a means of saving money. They would receive their Family Support payments as a lump sum at the end of the financial year.

Families could still send in their forms but their first payments -of Family Support for the new financial year might be delayed, he said. j!

It was important for families who were unsure of their income for the next financial year to over estimate rather than under estimate it. They might have a tax bill at the end of the year !if they received the wrong amount of Family Support for their income.
