Nissan dispute talks fail
PA j Auckland Talks aimed! at settling a dispute at the Wiri car plant of Nissan New Zealand, Ltd, failed yesterday. | The company said the negotiations stalled over the reinstatement of a worker who had refused an alternative ijob offer at the plant. The two-week strike by 65 stores, clerical and cleaning staff I began over a breakdowni in negotiations for a combined agreement. The company has since
said its 5 per cent pay offer was a “first It would give the workers a 7 per cent increase if they withdrew | cer ain claims, said a Nissan spokesman. Meanwhile, the company has filed damages claims of more than: $700,000 in the Labour Court against the cleapers and clerical ! workers’ unions. ! It has also filed a c amages claim foi; $107,000 against the j Northern Storeworkers’ Union relating to a strike in October over staff levels.
