Rugby J.A.B. on the ball

The; announcement of the suspensions of four former All Blacks earlier this week was not exactly the ideal way to promote the New Zealand Rugby Union’s "rugby awareness week" which finishes this week-end. In some sense it did make the’ public more aware of the oncoming rugby season through the headline treatment accorded to the suspensions i of Ashworth, Fraser, Knight and Mexted. Not all has been negative, however, during the rugby drive 1 week and the Canterbury {union’s Junior Advisory Board has made some positive Input with its brochure that I will be distributed by dubs to schoolchildren within the next week.

The Canterbury union's coaching : and development officer, Denis Kale, said yesterday that each club in Canterbury had been delegated schools to attend and distribute the; leaflets to those interested in playing rugby. The leaflets contain much useful information on J.A.B. rugby as well as a tear off enrolment form for , parents to fill inland for the child to return to the school where the forms will be collected by the clubs.

"We are not trying to steal kids from any other codes, we are aiming at those children wtio are not: playing any sport," said Mr Kale. All children who register 1 with clubs will receive a ; "rugby (family pack."
