Campus approves policy
A new policy statement on sexual harassment has been approved by! [the University of Canterbury Council. Harassment includes the abuse of power, and is aggravated by the abuse of authority of one person over another, the statement said. ' Sexual harassment involving staff, students or visitors, on or off the campus, was unaccept-
able, it said. [ The new policy was ap-[ proved at the council's! meeting this week after aj review of the policy had been initiated last year* The review had been bej gun before last year’s investigation by the University Council of charges of sexual harassment against a lecturer and a visiting lecturer. [ Sexual harassment included "sexual attention”
such as sexually orientated jokes or innuendo, unnecessary physical contact, or offensive gestures. j[ : Also, people should not suffer .after making a complaint of . sexual harassment, the statement said. Anybody who threatened a person who made such a complaint would be committing a form of harrassment, the council agreed.
