Oysters sell well in Chch
New season’s oysters are “going out the door like nobody’s business,” according to the Christchurch Fish Retailers’ Association. The association’s president, Mr Mike Reitsma, said about 1000 sacks — more than 70,000 dozen oysters — arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning and opening began immediately. By mid-morning Mr Reitsma had sold as many as he and his staff could open. °
His Fendalton Fish Supply store had 36 sacks — about 2500 dozen — to sell and the demand was great
He expected a similar number of oysters to arrive in Christchurch today. By the end of the day he had sold his entire stock and believed most other Christchurch retailers had experienced the same demand.
The quality and size are considered to be good.
