Man leaps then bounces
Hundreds of people yesterday saw the bungi-jumper, A. J. Hackett, leap from the top of the 56metre Auckland Stock Exchange tower into Chase Plaza off Albert Street. With tough elastic attached to his feet, he hurtled towards the transparant plastic roof of the plaza. The leap was perfectly calculated. Hackett bounced lightly off his hands and went rocketing back up almost to the top floor. A few bounces later the elastic was lowered. The Aucklander, who has also leapt off the Eiffel Tower, then cracked open the champagne. Hackett said he was pleased but relaxed about the jump. “Great,” he said. “It is such a pleasant thrill.”
