Court orders Govt on Fiji recognition
PA Wellington The Government has been ordered by the High Court to say whether it recognises the Fijian Government. The order was made in chambers by Mr Justice Quilliam. He was hearing a case in which Robert Jones House, Ltd, is trying to evict the Fiji High- Commission. Mr Bob Jones took the
action after the Fiji military coup last May. The High Commission took out an injunction to stop eviction.
Mr Jones said that his contract was with the Fijian Government and not the military regime. It is believed the Court has asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Marshall, for a certificate saying whether it recognised the present Fijian Government.
