Antarctica
Sir, —I am writing as a concerned young person regarding the proposed mining for minerals and oil in Antarctica. I am distressed by current literature which points to the possible exploitation of the wildlife and natural environment, in particular, the threat to penguin colonies along the coast, should an oil spill occur. I am a keen supporter of conservation and the rights of all — not just those who speak the loudest and hold the most money. I defend the rights of all the natural life in Antarctica and I also ask for consideration of our children to come — that they, too, can experience an unspoilt Antarc-
tica as one of the few remaining unscarred places on this Earth. — Yours, etc., JANE CROY. February 12, 1988.
