Twenty-eight withdrawals and only 38 true sales for $36,700, averaging a paltry $965 per lot, set the tone for the National Bloodstock Mixed Stock Sale at the Addington Showgrounds yesterday. Seven lots were repurchased by their vendors, including the four of the five highest-priced offerings.
These included $13,000 for the four-year-old Lordship mare, Neradama, from a half-sister to Tempo Cavalla (1:58.9) and served by Noodlum, which was bought back by Mr A. and Mrs S. Park of Woodend, and
$9OOO Mrs D. E. Glenie bid to buy back her seven-year-old mare Mayoress (Noodlum-Miscel-laneous), which had been served by Lordship. The highest true sale was for $3750 made on behalf of the Motukarara trainer, Steve Little, for Wendy Winkle, a seven-year-old Rip Van Winkle mare from a half-sister by Schell Hanover to the Auckland Cup winner Bolton Byrd, and New Zealand Messenger winner, Melton Monarch. Wendy Winkle had a foal at foot by Clever Innocence and was served by Alberton.
Other lots to fetch $2OOO or more were: Happy Holly, a six-year-old Tiger
Wave mare from Garriselle with a foal at foot by New York Motoring and served by Cosmic King, which was offered by National Bloodstock and purchased by Barbara Baker of Tauranga for $2000; and National Bloodstock’s 13-year-old Tarport Coulter mare, Lifestyle (the dam of American Style), with a foal at foot by Rashad and served by J.J.’s Cornell, which realised $2200 to the bid of Mr E. A. Tatterson of Christchurch. National Bloodstock offered 23 of the late 38 lots for sale themselves for an aggregate of $21,300, an average of $926.
