Jet would halve time

Ansett New Zealand is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Transport to fly a daily non-stop jet service between Rotorua and Christchurch. The airline carried out a number of satisfactory
test landing at the northern resort town a couple of months ago with one of its Boeing 7375. The aircraft apparently meets the criteria laid down for the airport, but Ministry authorisation is still needed.
Ansett currently flies de Havilland Dash-8s on the
route. The twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft take about 95 minutes to cover, the journey, but this time will be cut by about a half if the airline is given the nod to use its 87375. The Dash-8s would then be withdrawn from Rotorua and used on other regional routes.
