Lecturer praised

By

JENNY LONG

The University of Canterbury’s faculty of arts has congratulated the education lecturer whose masters students all received A plus grades in their paper on feminist issues in education. The course, run by Dr Adrienne Alton-Lee, had become a source of national controversy when all 14 students received the

outstanding grade. Faculty members congratulated Dr Alton-Lee for her teaching of “a stimulating, instructive and deeply humane course.” The faculty members also expressed regret at the ordeal Dr Alton-Lee had been made to suffer.

The dean of the faculty of arts, Mr John Jennings, said a report

would be prepared for the academic administration committee. The head of the university’s education department, Professor Warwick Elley, said earlier that Dr Alton-Lee worked closely with the students and the originality and thoroughness of her work had been praised by many in Canterbury and other universities.
