Chertsey trials

Ashburton reporter Two horses gained qualifying tickets at the Chertsey trotting trials held at Ashburton yesterday in ideal conditions. Dragon’s Score, a three-year-old filly by Patron Score from Dragon’s Way, won the qualifying heat from a standing start after being given a good run by Gerard O’Reilly. The horse is trained by Jim Kelly. The best run came from Motu Mister Smooth, a two-year-old colt by Smooth Fella from Motu Princess. Driven by the trainer, Barry Woodfield, it trailed Lancelot to the straight entrance then ran away to win by two seconds in 3:9.3. Good performances came later from Tena Coe, which bettered 3:10 in the CO mobile pace, Silence, which won the Cl and faster pace with a 59.9 s last 800 m and El Lynn which ran down a 12-horse field in the maiden pace from a stand.
