Bumpy roads

Sir,—l am one of many recreational and commuting cyclists in the city. I feel that particular streets, including my own home street, have been patched up with asphalt in a slap-happy way. There are bumps, humps, protrusions and other annoyances that not only make riding a bicycle, and probably a motor-cycle, uncomfortable and unnecessarily painful. I feel that there should be better supervision of work. This problem occurs mainly in the area where sewerage pipes are being laid or relaid. I realise that it would be impractical to reseal roads, but the City Council should at least make sure that it seals over the roadworks as flat as possible. — Yours, etc.,

NEIL SMITH February 3, 1988.
