Attitudes to family subject of survey

A survey of New Zealanders’ attitudes and ideals towards the family unit will be made by missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints during the next two months. By visiting every home in Christchurch and the surrounding areas, the church hopes to determine whether there is a. lot of interest in genealogy and family history. The president of the

New Zealand Christchurch Mission, Mr Dean Baxter, said that the church would provide a free genealogical course to help people research their family history if the survey found people were interested in the topic. The survey asks whether one thinks that the family unit is important in today’s society, and whether one thinks strong family units would solve some of today’s problems.

It also asks whether education, religion, community groups or the family help promote a stronger family unit. Faith in God and family prayers as a way of uniting the family is also addressed. The last question asks whether one would like to be happy with one’s family in heaven. Mr Baxter said the results of the survey would, be made available to any interested people.
