Tournament advances in soaring temperatures
In soaring temperatures yesterday, post-section play in the West Coast Bowling Centre’s seventy-fourth annual fours tournament advanced to the semi-finals and final which will be played today. The temperature in Greymouth reached 24 deg. yesterday but, with no wind, and an almost clear sky, the heat was more intense on the enclosed greens. By the quarter-finals yesterday afternoon, only Robert Fraser of the Karoro club, skipping a rink entered in the name of Ben Crestani, was the last survivor of the host centre.
Ironically, it was a former West Coast representative, Richard Case (Picton), who spelt the end of, Fraser. The last round of matches yesterday saw the departure of two former winners of the title,
Brian Ware (Christchurch R.S.A.) and Tony de Lorenzo (Maitai). This morning, Case will meet A Shankie (Lincoln), and G. Calder (Linwood) will meet C. Pablecheque (Westport R.S.A.).
