Kune oil flows in tests

PA Wellington An oil flow at the rate of 4580 barrels a day has been attained in testing at the Kupe 3B well in the offshore Taranaki basin, the operator reports. TCPL Resources also says testing indicates a gas rate from the well of 9.6 million cubic feet a day. Company representatives in New Plymouth yesterday morning declined to comment on the significance of the findings. But it is understood

they could point to an oil discovery of economic worth. The test results are contained in a brief report by TCPL to the Stock Exchange after an earlier report said that oil and gas, with no water, had been encountered in the well during drillstem testing at between 3352 and 3363.5 metres. The latest report says that with stabilised flow conditions attained, the liquid flow rate of 4580 barrels a day has been indicated with a choke

size of 0.5 inches. The wellhead pressure is given as 2435 psig. TCPL is expected to now do substantial analysis on data gathered during the testing to decide on the significance of the find. Kupe South 3B is the third well to be drilled in licence area PPL 38116 by a consortium which includes also National Petroleum, a joint venture between New Zealand Oil and Gas and Oilfields, Nl.
