The cornerstone of a three stage complex
Mullaly’s Restaurant is literally the cornerstone for a development which
will extend from Riccarton Road, along Mona Vale Avenue, Darvel Street and adjoining properties, says Mr Bob Jamieson, the principal consultant for the Jamand Group, the architects for the complex. The restaurant is stage, two of a three stage development. The Antrim Glen Motor Inn is the first stage while stage three, still in the planning stages, will be a large tourist hotel. The development of the site has been made possible by amalgamating two motel complexes — the Antrim .Glen and the Park Lane. The Jamand Group has been involved in the “lengthy” procedures for gaining town planning permission which took
three years, Bob Jamieson says. He describes the way the buildings have been designed as “introverted.” This focuses attention on the inside of the building and away from the busy road and railway line nearby. The buildings are centred around a courtyard while inside the restaurant building the main feature is the central skylit stairwell and lobby. It is the design of the building which lent itself to the sub-tropical theme, with its circular columns and courtyards. The result achieved by both the architect and interior designers is one of their most successful, Mr Jamieson says.
