Whakatane has most sunshine
PA Blenheim Whakatane pipped Blenheim by 70 hours to take the sunshine stakes in 1987, according to the Meteorological Office. The Bay Of Plenty centre recorded 2565 hours last year compared with Blenheim’s 2495 hours. The difference between the top of the North Island — Kaitaia — and the bottom of the South Island — Bluff — was only 574 hours; New Zealand’s sunniest places lie in between the two extremities.
