Leading sale prices
A steady demand for fine fleece wool at the Timaru wool sale resulted in several good prices, including 492 c (74 per cent yield) for eight bales of Corriedale from H. A. and L. A. Mitchell (Fairlie). Close behind was H. A. Dyer (Waimate) with 491 c (74.1) for four bales of Corriedale. S. P. and M. M. O’Connor (Waimate) received 477 c (71.7) for 15 bales of Corriedale while S. and R. E. Gray (Westerfield) were paid 472 c (70.1) for 24 bales, and N. W. Briggs (Pleasant Point) 471 c (70.4) for four bales. A line of 11 bales of fine wool from W. Davidson (Westerfield) made 471 c (74.5). Among a small selection of Merinos were three lines of woolly hogget from B. M. and R. B. Mcllraith (Waimate) which made 2186 c (60) for three bales of 17.8 micron, 2160 c (70.7) for four bales of 18.2 micron, and 1680 c (68) for three bales of 18.8 micron. Seven bales of 20.1 micron Merino from H. A. Dyer (Waimate) made 1254 c (71.4). A handful of crossbred
prices exceeded 480 c, but many ranged from 450 c to 465 c. Leading shorn hogget sales included six bales from M. M. Murdoch (Maungati) at 496 c (80.3) and nine bales from D. G. Wills (Fairlie) at 495 c (77.3). S. D. and L. A Lamb (Cannington) received 482 c (74.8) for 11 bales of Romney woollv hogget and 466 c (81.8) for six bales of Romney fleece, while Sewell Brothers (Ashburton) received 461 c (82.5) for eight bales of Romney two-tooth. Four bales of crossbred fleece from J. A. O’Neill (Albury) made 465 c (83.7), 10 bales from Forest Downs (Fairlie) made 463 c (81.3), and four bales from G. H. Stocker (Levels) sold at 462 c (80.9). Coopworth made 461 c (80.7) for 10 bales from S. A. and G. A. Rawlinson (Ashburton) and Borderdale shorn hogget made 481 c (78.2) for six bales from N. Stockdale (Ashburton) and 478 c (72.4) for eight bales from W. M. Vessey (Ashburton). BorderRomney two-tooth from B. J. McEwan (Cannington) reached 463 c (81.2) and the
same price was paid for five bales of Border-Romney shorn hogget (80.6) from J. R. Sheed (Geraldine). Sales of second-shear included 467 c (82.4) for four bales of Romney two-tooth from Forest Park, Ltd (Ashburton); 462 c (82.5) for nine bales of crossbred from Forest Downs (Fairlie); 462 c (83.5) for 10 bales of Coopworth from Bluecliffs station (Timaru); and 460 c (83.1) for 14 bales from W. A. and J. A. Austin (Albury). Perendale lambs’ wool reached 498 c (82.6) for 12 bales from P. Moynihan (Cannington) while seven bales of Borderdale lambs’ from D. J. Chisnail (Ashburton) sold at 477 c (75.2). Romdale lambs' wool made 475 c (81.5) for 10 bales from Lichterfelde Farming Co (Cannington), 12 bales of Coopworth from Pinecroft Farm (Fairlie) sold at 470 c (85.2), Romney made 473 (84.8) for five bales from R. J. Westgarth (Pleasant Point), and eight bales of crossbred from G. A. McKerchar (Cannington) sold at 463 c (85.5)
