Douglas reaction
By
TONY VERDON
in London The Minister of Finance, Mr Douglas, early yesterday shrugged off the delay in introducing a flat rate of personal income tax. But he made clear he still believed such tax reform should be introduced as quickly as possible.
Speaking in London before flying to Switzerland, Mr Douglas said the delay had been obvious when it was decided to wait for the report of the Royal Commission on Social Policy. "I obviously realised the possible implications of the timing then. “But you know me— I have always believed in ‘the sooner the better’ with these things.”
