Double Lang stylish
Special correspondent Palmerston North Double Lang came through his final trial for the Foster’s Wellington Cup in good style at Awapuni yesterday. But Lady Aloof, one of the fancied runners for the Jarden Mile, did not gallop. She knocked a leg in training on Tuesday and her trainer, Noel Eales, said that she would probably miss the big $lOO,OOO race. Double Lang usually gallops alone, but yesterday he went with Golden Sealord over 1200 m, running the journey on the
plough in 1:17.4, the last 600 m in 38.45. Double Lang was not disgraced on the first day and after his sixth in the Auckland Cup he has to have some chance. Golden Sealord is well and should go close in the City Handicap. Rabanne and Lagerfeld, at their best for the Jarden, ran 1000 metres in 1:36.6, the last 600 m in 36.8 s with Lagerfeld just in front. But after a top run in the Anniversary, Rabanne could be the better prospect. He is a lightweight chance with only 47kg.
