NZPA London The Government would consider moving against Telecom if it acted "anticompetitively,” said the Minister of Finance, Mr Douglas, in London. Competitors must be able to negotiate fair access to the Telecom Corporation’s network for

there to be effective competition, Mr Douglas told British businessmen. In a speech to the London Chamber of Commerce he noted that the British State Electricity Corporation had taken the initiative in forming a policy to provide competitors with access to its grid.

“The Government expects the Telecom Corporation to formulate an interconnection policy also. If there is evidence that Telecom is acting anti-competitively and that the general competition provisions of the Commerce Act are insufficient, we will consider pro-competitive measures.”
