‘Prieur still on Hao atoll’
By
BRENDON BURNS,
political reporter The Rainbow Warrior saboteur, Captain Dominique Prieur, remains on Hao atoll, the Government has been assured. Now, it awaits the results of the medical tests on Major Alain Mafart before taking a position on whether the agent would be justified remaining in France for further treatment. The assurance on Prieur came in a three-monthly report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided by the French Embassy in Wellington. A copy has been obtained by "The Press.” Such reports are required under the adjudication of the United Nations SecretaryGeneral, which saw both agents released to Hao. There had been continuing speculation that Prieur had returned to France, the latest instance of this arising after Mafart’s sudden journey back to Paris for tests on a stomach complaint. But the latest quarterly report said Prieur’s situation had not changed. The requirement for limited contact with other people, and a ban on all communication with the press, continued to be applied, it said. A spokesman for the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, said last evening that medical tests were concluded last week.
