Pet dogs of varying sizes and pedigrees are shown at Northlands Shopping Mall yesterday in the first heat of the Champ pet dog event. Parading their family pets are (from left) Evan Hopkins, aged eight, with his pug dog, Rex, and two-year-old Nikki Karst, with Tarn, a boxer. Tarn was one of 10 finalists selected for the Champ Southern Classic Dog Show at Riccarton Racecourse on February 20-21. Three more heats, all at 2 p.m., will be held at suburban shopping malls this week: at Riccarton Mall today; New Brighton Mall tomorrow; and at Linwood City Mall on Saturday. The parade has been organised by the New Zealand Kennel Club.
