P.S.A. denies dispute claim
Claims by the Airways Corporation that an industrial dispute in Christchurch had caused the breakdown of air traffic controllers’ talks in Wellington were false, said a Public Service Association spokesman yesterday. The regional secretary of the Canterbury P.S.A., Mr John McKenzie, said the claim was wrong. “The alleged dispute was only a difference of opinion between two air traffic controllers in Christchurch,” he said.
He said the corporation was only stalling for time. Talks on a 10 per cent wage rise for controllers are set down for early February. The corporation has offered 7 per cent. The corporation had blamed the breakdown of mediation talks between the two groups on the alleged Christchurch dispute, but the air traffic controllers’ disagreement had not been linked to the negotiations.
