Wright joins players on tour
John Wright, the New Zealand opening batsman, will play for Canterbury in its Shell Trophy cricket match against Wellington, starting at the Basin Reserve tomorrow. He joins the 12 players already on the northern tour. The final selection will not be made until the side arrives in Wellington
this afternoon. The chairman of the Canterbury association, Brian Adams, said last evening that Wright was available for Canterbury’s games against Wellington and Central Districts, but not the last match of its trophy series, against Otago in Dunedin.
Richard Hadlee did not return to this country with the main party of New Zealand players and was not available for tomorrow’s match. Meanwhile, the Auckland selectors have omitted two national representatives, Stu Gillespie and Vaughan Brown, from their team to meet Cen-
tral Districts at Auckland tomorrow. Two others, lan Smith and Dipak Patel, were not available. Martin Crowe was not considered for Central. He has a prior engagement as a guest at the wedding of the former All Black wing, Stu Wilson.
