Australian double bill Two new actors at Court
Two plays by an Australian playwright, Michael Gow, will open at the Court Theatre next week.
The first is “Europe,” which opens on February 2 in Court Two. It stars Kevin Smith and Geraldine Brophy as a young Australian and a European actress who meet in Europe several years after a week-end affair when she was touring Australia. Elizabeth Moody will
direct. Tony Geddes has designed the set symbolising the glory and decay of Europe. The costumes are by Annie Graham.
“Away” opens in Court One on February 5. It stars Stephen Lovatt as Tom, and Eilish Wahren as his girlfriend. Bill le Marquand and Yvonne Martin are his parents, Judie Douglass and Paul Barret, the girlfriend’s parents. The hearty
headmaster and his wife are played by Colin McCulloch and Caroline Claver. Lloyd Edwards is the young fitter and turner on honeymoon. The cast also plays campers, school children and Shakespeare’s magical beings from “The Dream.”
David Thornley’s set is simple and is lit by Joe Hayes’ lighting design. Pamela Mating has designed the costumes.
