Fellowship for city doctor
A member of the Christchurch Hospital medical staff, Dr Allan Simpson, has been awarded a Commonwealth Medical Fellowship. Dr Simpson, a registrar in the department of ophthalmology, will take up the one-year fellowship in February when he travels to the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology at Oxford University. Apart from clinical work, he will undertake research into new methods for the early detection of glaucoma while gaining further experience in the medical and surgical treatment of the disease.
Dr Simpson trained at the Christchurch School of Medicine,
In 1987, he passed his final ophthalmology examinations with the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists and Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
