Extension sought
PA Hamilton The national wrestling coach, Andrew Roche (Katikati) will approach the Olympic selectors to seek an extension of time for New Zealand wrestlers to qualify for Seoul. Mr Roche said he was seeking an extension to the May 1 date after the cancellation of this month’s Australian bicentennial wrestling tournament. The tournament would have been the last chance for local wrestlers to prove themselves internationally before nominations closed. Mr Roche is now hoping the time will be extended to encompass the Oceania championships in Sydney in May. This year’s Oceania championships have been extended to include countries such as Japan and will also involve wrestlers from the west coast of Canada and the United States.
