The newspaper is published on six days of the week and is an afternoon paper which is distributed in Gore and surrounding districts of Eastern Southland with a flow over into some areas of West Otago. The paper is printed on a web offset press which also provides the company with the facility to produce other reel fed printing work with the capability to incorporate four colour printing. Other commercial printing is produced from a sheet fed offset press and letterpress units. This printing function is supported by finishing work in the way of book binding etc. Whilst an understanding of either or both of our mainstream functions (newspaper or commercial) would be advantageous the main attribute required for the job is the willingness to become keenly involved in direct selling, motivating and informing two staff employed as salespersons. It is essential that precise operating procedures are maintained and good client support is provided. To date an appointment has been made for the Project Leader and the Council is seeking to fill two further vacancies as follows: REGIONAL TRANSPORT OFFICER (TRANSPORT PLANNING) This position has been created to assist with GATS and its ongoing monitoring and review. The successful candidate will have a basic degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, geography, civil engineering or a related subject. An interest in transport planning is essential and full training will be provided. The position will involve working with a number of members of outside organisations and consultants. The main rsponsibilities of this position involve transport network development, data collection and computer modelling. A salary range of $26,500 to $34,500 is being offered. PLANNER Initially this position will contribute to the urban and related transportation aspects of the Council’s regional planning programme. The successful applicant will have a qualification in urban or regional planning, geography or ecology.
