Courier Bay likely Jarden starter
PA New Plymouth The brilliant Taranaki sprinter, Courier Bay, was declared a “most likely” starter for Saturday’s Jarden Mile at Trentham, after a light training workout at the New Plymouth track yesterday. The chestnut gelding’s owner-trainer, Geoff White, said the horse has taken no harm from his Win in the Wrightson Handicap at the Wellington meeting last Saturday. “At this stage he will run in the Jarden, but a final decision won’t be made until after his gallop on Thursday morning,” White said. White is thrilled with Courier Bay’s ' barrier draw of No. 1 in the Jarden. However, he is ■ not so pleased with Courier. Bay’s weight of 57.5 kg. Originally it was published that the weight was 55.5 kg but there was a mix-up and this should have been 56.5 kg. Then a rehandicap came after the Wrightson Handicap win to raise the weight to 57.5 kg. “I’ve accepted the weight and it won’t put me off lining him up,” White said. Courier Bay was let off with only two rounds on the sand track in training yesterday and appeared keen in his work.
