Smart work

Special correspondent Hastings

The stablemates, Mercury’s Mark, and Debe’s Lady took the time honours at the Hastings track yesterday, with a smart 600 m on the plough. Fast work took place on the plough and the No. 1 grass. Both tracks provided firm footing.

Mercury’s Mark (Woods) finished strongly to shade Debe’s Lady (Ackland) at the end of 600 m in 365. They are both with Rose Durrant.

Mercury’s Mark was caught three-wide all the way when fifth at Awapuni on January 16 and that came after a big first-up effort for second at Hastings. The Silver Blaze colt shows great potential and could have his next start at Hawera on Saturday week.
